ACTEM Reflection
To better prepare for the conference I would have researched the different presentations happening outside the forum. I spent a majority of my time learning about different products and vendors. At one point I was helping a vendor advertising laser technology by programming the laser to engrave messages. Though useful and interesting, this also prevented me from viewing discussions that could have bettered my teaching career.
I spent a large majority of my time learning about new technologies. I was interested in seeing what kind of technologies were being advertised at the conference and how they would be used in a classroom setting. I compared various smart board technologies, 3D technologies, 3D printers, and laser technology. Doing this allowed me to familiarize myself with a number of devices that I may one day have in my classroom.
My app I was reviewing was the app Gettysburg. One of the major components of my presentation was including the audience in the demonstration. After giving a brief overview of the app I would have the viewer pick one of the interactive icons. Regardless of which location they picked, I would show that it had a wealth of information, video, and audio files. I would always use the 20th Maine icon to demonstrate the depth of knowledge the app possessed. I would also ask the viewer to pick one of the three days of battle provided by the app. Once selected, the app would generate the troop movements and positions on both sides. I would end each demonstration by asking if they had any questions or helping them find it on the app store.
